Medical training at JN Medical College, Belgaum affiliated to Karnatak University, Dharwad, India. Qualified 1992. General practice for about two years. In 1994, joined the collaborative research project between Holdsworth Memorial Hospital, Mysore and MRC Environmental Epidemiology Unit, Southampton to study the relationship of fetal growth to adult coronary heart disease and its risk factors in South Indian adults; this was the first study to examine this in an Indian population. Project leader between 1995 and 1998; during that period completed a study on the relationship of fetal growth to adult left ventricular mass and arterial compliance for a 'DM' thesis which has been submitted to the University of Southampton. Involved in setting up further projects at Mysore including a study to examine inter-generational effects on adult disease. Visiting Research Fellow at the MRC Unit in Southampton for about 9 months during 1998-1999. Currently working as a specialist registrar in Public Health in the South West Training Scheme where areas of work have included communicable diseases, environmental health, coronary heart disease and sexual health.
Interested in the epidemiology of coronary heart disease and its risk factors in Indians with particular reference to the fetal origins hypothesis.
Would like to pursue a career in international public health in the future combining hands-on public health work with epidemiological research in developing countries.
