A medallist Undergraduate and Postgraduate of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, at present affiliated as a Professor and Incharge, Division of Clinical Epidemiology, Department of Pediatrics at the Maulana Azad Medical College , and Visiting Professor at the MRC Environmental Epidemiology Unit, Southampton. The notable distinguishing achievements include:

Conducting exceptional competitive research of international caliber. Credited with over 200 international and national publications including in prestigious Journals like the Lancet, BMJ, etc. Published work featured as lead articles in the NEJM, Lancet, BMJ; evoked editorials; and was abstracted by the WHO and leading international services like the Excerpta Medica, Year Book of Pediatrics, Current Science, Clinical Digest Series (<1% published international research is abstracted by these services). The large scale nationally relevant research has been funded by several National and International Agencies like the Government of India, ICMR, USAID, World Bank, WHO, UNICEF and British Heart Foundation.

Edited thirteen popular Books and six Reports relevant to child health in the context of developing countries.

Recipient of prestigious National Research Awards from the Indian Council of Medical Research and the Indian Academy of Pediatrics. Honored with the Fellowships of the National Academy of Medical Sciences , Indian Academy of Pediatrics and International Medical Sciences Academy .

Consultant/Temporary Advisor to WHO (Geneva), UNICEF, Integrated Child Development Services Scheme, USAID supported Child Survival Programs and the World Bank funded Eighth Population Project for Delhi. Member Expert Group/Task Force constituted by WHO, UNICEF, ICMR, Ministry of Health, MCI and IAP.

Former National President of Indian Academy of Pediatrics (2003). Served Indian Pediatrics, the official Journal of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics since 1985; for eight years as Publication Secretary and seven years as Editor-in-Chief. Indian Pediatrics has a monthly circulation of 15,000, is available full text online with an average hit rate of 1,20,000 per month, is indexed by leading international services and received an award for the best medical journal in the country. Also a referee for several prestigious international and national journals.

Disseminating correct and latest techniques of educational science technology as an Honorary Faculty Member in the Medical Education Department of the Maulana Azad Medical College , which is one of the five recognized centers for this activity.

Joint Secretary of the 8th Asian Congress of Pediatrics, which received international acclaim for creating a global precedent of not accepting hospitality from manufacturers of infant formula.

Former Secretary of the Nutrition Society of India (1999-2003). Office bearer of many other Scientific Organizations and invited participant/speaker for international and national Symposiums, Conferences, and Workshops.
